Kaplan's "MCAT Advantage - Anywhere" COURSE REVIEW, Part 1: Introduction

Image
As a part of my MCAT preparation, I decided to take an online MCAT prep course  offered by Kaplan Test Prep company. While taking the classes over the course of several upcoming months, I will be publishing its continuous comprehensive review on this blog. In this introduction, I give a general description of the course. Kaplan offers several options to help students with their MCAT preparation via a comprehensive course - the basic one is called MCAT Advantage and it comes in three versions: On Site - A classical set of courses during which a student personally attends classes at a specific time and place, lead by an MCAT specialist instructor. Anywhere - The same set of scheduled classes, though attended virtually live online - student still has a chance to interact with the instructor, but does not need to go anywhere specific. On Demand - An online course similar to the one described above, but in the form of video tutorials. Therefore, the student can choose to take classe...

Expenses Overview

Image
As I mentioned elsewhere , one of the greatest obstacles for international students on their way for a medical degree are finances. Besides the obvious - astronomically high tuition fees that are not covered by the federal funds for foreigners - there is a lot to pay even before getting admitted to a med school. In this post, all the major expenses are listed, as they are usually covered throughout the entire admission process: MCAT preparation Once you decide to take the MCAT , you definitely want to pay attention during the required pre-med classes , as most of what you learn there you will need for the MCAT. Besides that, however, you should consider dedicating some time to preparation of the test itself - in order to familiarize yourself with the types of questions and to get the general gist of knowledge you will be required to show. For this purpose, I would recommend you to choose at least one of the book packages offered by companies that specialize in test preparation - most o...

What to Know Before You Start

Image
Do you remember when you applied for undergraduate schools? In that case you probably also remember that it can be a very tedious process - and, believe you me, this is even more true for medical schools, especially for international students , who might not be even considered at some of them, and most likely not given financial aid at almost any. Let's look at what you should really consider, before you set off for this long journey. Research all the necessary information First step in your application process should be a thorough research of what you need to do in order to get to a medical school (which should actually include reconsideration of your future career path). In this phase, it is also necessary be in touch with a pre-medical advisor at your undergraduate institution, as this resource is indispensable and in many respects a necessary one. You're here, so that's good - and it should be enough for general info anyway. But for the more specific information about ...
